St. Ignatius College Prep - SF
The St. Ignatius Athletic Department is excited to announce Erin Burns and Karen Silcott as co-head coaches of our Women’s Lacrosse Program. Erin and Karen bring a wealth of playing and coaching experience to St. Ignatius and a sense of excitement and enthusiasm to bring our Women’s Wildcat Lacrosse to the highest level of success.
ERIN BURNS
A Baltimore native, Erin lettered in lacrosse and soccer at Roland Park Country School before attending James Madison University. While injury ended Erin’s lacrosse playing career, she began coaching lacrosse and soccer at the youth level while in college. Erin earned a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Georgia in 2012 and continued coaching on the youth, high school, and collegiate club level while in graduate school. When Erin moved to California in 2011 to complete her postdoc, she became more involved in the administration side of club sports. She has since become the Executive Director at the San Francisco Lacrosse Club and the Director of Operations at STEPS California. Erin continues to work as a Senior Research Associate for a company based in Washington DC. Her east coast work hours allows her to actively engage in the lacrosse community and she looks forward to continuing the winning tradition as the co-head coach of the SI Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team as well as coaching for STEPS.
KAREN SILCOTT
Originally from Freeport, New York, Karen spent 8 years as the Head Coach of Division 1 Bryant University before moving south to start her family and begin working in youth lacrosse. At Bryant she led the programs successful transition from D2 to D1 and while they were not eligible for the conference tournament during her tenure, she finished the regular season in 2nd place in just their third year of Division 1 play. Prior to taking the reigns at Bryant, Karen served as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts and as a program director for Metro Lacrosse in Boston, MA. Karen played college lacrosse at Syracuse University. She was a top recruit on the inaugural Women’s Lacrosse team at Syracuse. Karen earned Regional All American honors as a midfielder in both her freshman and sophomore years. Three knee surgeries were a major blow to her career but she fought back and after a brief stint as a goalie, moved back on to the field earning 2nd Team All Big East Honors as a defender in her senior season. Karen currently serves as the Girls Director at Firehawks Lacrosse Club, the Director of Recruiting at STEPS California and the Head Coach of the 2022 STEPS team. She also teaches PE at a school in Los Altos. Karen will also return to the lacrosse field this November, representing the Jamaican National Team as they try to qualify for their first World Cup. Karen is thrilled to partner with Erin to lead the SI Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team.
